Last updated: October 29, 2026
This policy explains what the Bible Scroll app (listed on the App Store as Bible Chat Scroll) stores about you, which services help run it, and the choices you have. It also covers this website.
Who is responsible. BookVitals Inc. is the data controller for Bible Scroll ("we", "us"). Questions or requests: admin@thebiblechat.com.
The short version. You can use the app without signing up. We store your favorites, notes and streak so they survive a reinstall. Ads partners receive install and purchase events only after you answer Apple's tracking prompt. You can delete your account and data from Settings at any time.

1. What we store about you
| Data | Where it is kept | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous account id | Firebase Authentication | Every install gets an account on first launch, with no sign-up, so your data has somewhere to live. |
| Apple ID email and name | Firebase Authentication and your profile | Only if you choose Sign in with Apple, so your favorites and notes survive a reinstall. Apple may give us a private relay email instead of your real one. |
| Profile | Our database (Firestore) | Account state: account id, display name, email, first and last name, language, sign-in method, whether the account is anonymous, onboarding completion and date, subscription status, time zone, push token, notification permission, longest streak and number of verses read. |
| Favorites and notes | Our database (Firestore) | To sync saved verses across reinstalls and devices. Each item holds the Bible and verse reference, the verse text, whether it is a favorite, the note you wrote and when you last edited it. |
| Streak | Our database (Firestore) | Your daily streak. One record per run of days (start date, end date, length), recorded when you open the app. |
| Time zone | Your profile | So your streak follows your own midnight. Updated when it changes. |
| Push token | Your profile and Firebase Cloud Messaging | To send the notifications you allowed. Stored only after you grant notification permission. |
| Preferences on your phone | Your device only | Your chosen translation, cached Bible text, your feed queue and which tips you have seen. This never leaves your device. |
2. Services that help run the app
These providers process data on our behalf so the app can work.
| Service | What is sent | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Remote Config, App Check, Storage) | Your account id and the data in section 1 | Our backend: sign-in, sync, app configuration and protecting our servers from abuse |
| For You feed (our server function) | Your account id, your favorite verses and the verses recently shown to you | Picking the verses in your For You feed |
| Bible search (our server function) | The words you search for | Finding verses |
| Voice playback (our server, a text-to-speech service we run on Cloudflare Workers, with voices from Inworld) | Your account id, to issue a playback token, and the verse text being read | Reading verses aloud |
| Cloudflare Images | Image requests only | Backgrounds for share cards |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Crash reports and error logs, without your notes or other content | Finding and fixing crashes |
| Adapty | Purchase and subscription status, your account id | Managing subscriptions and restoring purchases |
Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your card details.
3. Analytics and advertising
| Partner | Data | Purpose | When it runs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics for Firebase | App events (screens, taps, purchases), device and app information | Understanding how the app is used | Always |
| Singular | Install and purchase events, device identifiers, and the advertising identifier (IDFA) if you allow tracking | Knowing which campaign brought an install, including purchases made on the web and carried into the app | Only after you answer Apple's tracking prompt; in the EU and UK only after onboarding |
| Meta (Facebook) | Install and purchase events, your account id, and the IDFA if you allow tracking | Measuring our Meta ad campaigns | Same as Singular |
| TikTok | Install and purchase events, and the IDFA if you allow tracking | Measuring our TikTok ad campaigns | Same as Singular; turned off for users who tell us they are minors |
The app asks for permission with Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, which reads "Accepting will help provide you with personalized Bible content." If you decline, the advertising identifier is not shared. You can change your answer at any time in iPhone Settings, Privacy and Security, Tracking.
4. Why we use your data
- To provide the app: your account, syncing favorites, notes and streak, the For You feed, search, audio and subscriptions.
- To keep it working and safe: crash reports, error logs and protecting our servers from abuse.
- To improve it: understanding which features people use.
- To measure our advertising: learning which campaigns bring people to the app, as described in section 3.
- To contact you: notifications you allowed, and replies when you write to us.
We do not use your notes or favorites for advertising.
5. Who we share data with
Only the providers and partners named in sections 2 and 3, for the purposes stated there, and authorities when the law requires it. If our business is reorganized or sold, your data may move to the new owner under this policy.
We do not sell your personal data for money. Sending install and purchase events to Meta and TikTok to measure ads can count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law; see section 10.
Bible Scroll runs on its own systems, separate from our other apps.
6. How long we keep data
We keep your account, favorites, notes and streak for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account they are deleted from our database, as described below. Analytics and advertising partners keep the data they receive according to their own retention settings and policies.
7. Deleting your account
In the app, open Settings and tap Delete account. This deletes your profile, favorites, notes and streak, and then your account. It cannot be undone. Deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription; cancel it in iPhone Settings, your name, Subscriptions.
No longer have the app? Email admin@thebiblechat.com from any address and we will handle your request. Step by step: Delete your account.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct data that is wrong;
- delete your data;
- stop or limit some uses of your data, or object to them;
- stop sharing your data for targeted advertising.
Write to admin@thebiblechat.com. We may need to confirm the request comes from the account holder. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
9. EU and UK residents
Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR, we rely on these legal bases:
- Contract: running your account, syncing your data, audio and subscriptions.
- Legitimate interests: security, crash reports and understanding how the app is used.
- Consent: notifications and the advertising identifier. You can withdraw consent at any time in iPhone Settings without affecting what happened before.
You have the rights in section 8, plus the right to data portability and to complain to your local data protection authority. We answer requests within one month.
Our database is hosted in the United States. Where data leaves the EU or UK, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. California residents
Under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, in the last 12 months we collected identifiers (account id, device ids, email if you chose Sign in with Apple), commercial information (purchase and subscription status), internet and app activity (app events), and the content you create (notes). The sources, purposes and recipients are listed in sections 1 to 3.
We do not sell personal information for money. We share identifiers, app activity and purchase events with Meta and TikTok for cross-context behavioral advertising. To opt out, decline tracking in Apple's prompt or in iPhone Settings, Privacy and Security, Tracking, or email us. You also have the rights to know, delete and correct, and the right not to be discriminated against for using them. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
11. Children
Bible Scroll is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
12. This website
biblechatscroll.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics or trackers. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and pages requested, to deliver the site and keep it secure.
13. Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell you in the app when the change is significant. This page stays at the same address.
